FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TRAVELING GARBAGE GALLERY ART PROGRAM CALL TO ARTISTS OPEN (10/30).
The City of Casa Grande’s Public Works Department, Sanitation Division, is offering their fleet of garbage trucks as traveling canvases for local artists. The “Traveling Garbage Gallery Art Program” Request for Proposals (RFP) is open from October 30th through November 17th and is seeking artists to participate in a public art project to transform garbage collection vehicles into roving works of art.
Phase I of the program includes two sides of five garbage trucks that offer 64 square feet of “canvas”. Additional trucks will be added in future phases until the fleet is covered. The selected artwork will honor an anti-littering campaign and highlight the importance of keeping Casa Grande clean and beautiful while adding a bit of flair to neighborhoods.
“We are very excited to participate in this public art and awareness program and look forward to all the creative designs we will showcase on the trucks”, said Ron Rouse, Sanitation Superintendent. “Everyone benefits from the program. The artists will create something beautiful; the public will be able to enjoy the artwork and the drivers will be proud to display the art on their vehicles.”
To apply, interested parties may visit www.CasaGrandeAZ.gov/GarbageGallery to view the RFP and submittal requirements. The deadline to submit is Friday, November 17th by midnight and selected artists will receive a $100 gift card. Designs are to be submitted as a digital vectorized file and will be printed on a vinyl wrap which will be adhered to the sides of the garbage truck.
The Public Works, Sanitation Division, covers 341 street miles and 39 alley miles, collects over 44,152 tons of trash each year, and services over 21,000 residential accounts citywide.
