FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: RESIDENTS MAY NOW APPLY FOR 2024 LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (11/20).
The City of Casa Grande is accepting applications for the 2024 Leadership Academy, a nine-week program designed to educate residents on how their local government works. Each week, participants learn about a new facet of the city through presentations and tours hosted by department directors and elected officials. Since 2003, this free training opportunity has provided residents with a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep Casa Grande running strong.
Mayor Craig McFarland graduated from the Leadership Academy in 2016 and explained there is a lot more than meets the eye to operating city business. “Whether you are a new or seasoned resident or want to learn how your money is spent as a taxpayer, the academy will provide the opportunity for you to learn these things and more,” explained McFarland. “We want our citizens to be involved and informed.”
The Academy is typically held annually and available to Casa Grande residents, 18 years and older. Sessions run every Wednesday, starting February 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., ending with a graduation. The State of the City has been added as an optional session on March 6th.
Arizona Public Service (APS) has been a long-term supporter and sponsor of the Academy. Richard Rosales, APS Community Affairs Manager (Southeast) explained that the company enjoys serving the people of Casa Grande and believes in providing the opportunity for residents.
“Over the years, graduates have gone on to volunteer for nonprofit or City boards, commissions, and committees, “said Rosales. “Others have even run for office and won.”
Applications must be completed and submitted on or before December 20, 2023. The session schedule and application are now available online. Space is limited to 20 applicants. Those accepted into the program are expected to attend at least eight of the nine sessions and will be notified by email before sessions begin.
