Community Invited to Kick-Off Mayor’s Reading Program

Join Mayor Craig McFarland and Councilwoman Donna McBride as they kick-off the annual Mayor’s Reading Program with an event on Thursday, August 30. Offered each year in partnership with the Casa Grande Elementary School district, this program recruits volunteers to read to elementary school children in grades K-3. Current and prospective volunteers are invited to attend the kick-off event and find out how spending just one hour a month can help ignite the joy of reading to thousands of children.

Councilman McBride challenges the community to join the fun. “We doubled our volunteers last year to 89 readers. With this being the 20th year for the program, I would love to see us reach 100 volunteers,” she said.

The Mayor’s Reading Program Kick-Off event will be held on Thursday, August 30 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Main Library, 449 N. Drylake Street. Prospective volunteers are welcome to attend and ask questions, or can submit an application online by clicking here. Applicants must complete a Casa Grande Elementary School District Volunteer Application prior to classroom reading.
