FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TRAVELING GARBAGE GALLERY ART UNVEILING SCHEDULED (01/10/24)

The City of Casa Grande is proud to announce the unveiling of another public art project for the community. The unveiling of the “Traveling Garbage Gallery Art Program” is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10th at 2:00 p.m. at 510 E. 8th Street, or the north side of City Hall.

The “Traveling Garbage Gallery Art Program” offers garbage trucks as canvases for local artists to honor an anti-littering campaign and highlight the importance of keeping Casa Grande clean and beautiful while adding a bit of flair to neighborhoods. The trucks will be on display and the artists will be present and introduced to the public. The selected artists include Shannon Ratts, Francis Ryan Coeur, Elizabeth Robbins, Susan Shivers, Ramon Robles, and 12-year-old Gauge Guillen.

The Request for Proposal (RFP) opened in October and six artists were selected whose art is featured on two sides of six garbage collection vehicles, transforming them into roving works of art. Additional trucks will be added in future phases until the city fleet is covered.

“It was a fun process our department would not normally get to be a part of,” said Ron Rouse, Sanitation Superintendent. “Artwork and sanitation services is not an obvious partnership, but we are excited to be a part of the program. Our drivers picked the art for their individual trucks and there is real pride in displaying them.”

The selected artists will receive a $100 gift card and the vinyl wraps will be printed and installed by Radius Signs, a local vendor. “As soon as we heard about this program, we wanted to be a part of it,” said Ryan Schoenthaler, Sales Manager for Radius Signs. “It’s not everyday we get to wrap a 16-ton vehicle in artwork.”

The Public Works, Sanitation Division, covers 341 street miles and 39 alley miles, collects over 44,152 tons of trash each year, and services over 21,000 residential accounts citywide.
