FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: KORTSEN ROAD SEWER RELIEF PROJECT TO SUPPORT GROWING INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS.
CASA GRANDE, AZ - [March 14, 2024] - Contractors for the City of Casa Grande have started construction on the much-anticipated Kortsen Road Sewer Relief Project this March. This significant infrastructure project is a pivotal step towards addressing the demand for increased sewer capacity along the Kortsen Road alignment.
The Kortsen Relief Sewer Project comes at a critical juncture as the current sewer system, nearing capacity, poses challenges for new developments seeking assured sewer service. Recognized as a top priority in the Master Sewer plan, this project is essential for sustaining growth in the region by adding approximately 9 million gallons per day (MGD) to the existing capacity.
The sewer force main, spanning a distance of approximately 4.6 miles (24,400LF), will originate at the Henness Road alignment, navigate along the Kortsen Road alignment, and end at the City's Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). Environmental considerations were addressed during the planning stage to ensure minimal ecological impact.
Traffic Impacts
During the construction phase, crews will begin work at the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) and progress eastward towards the final tie-in location at Henness and Kortsen Roads. To mitigate disruptions, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction throughout the project. However, there may be instances where a single lane closure is necessary, and flaggers will facilitate traffic movement.
Construction Impacts
The project, slated to run from March 2024 through March 2025, aims to minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses. However, there may be times when access to driveways is limited. The project team will proactively communicate with affected property owners to ensure minimal disruptions.
Financial Investment
This critical infrastructure project, with a financial investment of $8,750,000, was approved as part of the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP), underscoring Casa Grande's commitment to advancing its infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing community.
