A TRIBUTE THROUGH ACTION: CASA GRANDE UNITES FOR 9/11 NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE.
Casa Grande, AZ– The City of Casa Grande invites the community to participate in the National Day of Service Project on Saturday, September 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Ed Hooper Park, 2525 N. Pinal Avenue in Casa Grande.
The National Day of Service encourages community members to show unity and kindness in tribute and remembrance of the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, at the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the open field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In partnership with local schools and churches, we are encouraging the community to join in clean-up and beautification efforts at Ed Hooper Park. Last year, over 400 volunteers participated in the clean-up efforts on Casa Grande Mountain.
To sign up as a volunteer for the National Day of Service, please visit www.casagrandeaz.gov/volunteer or www.justserve.org.
Those wishing to participate will meet at 7:00 a.m. at Ed Hooper Park, 2525 N. Pinal Avenue, where Mayor Craig McFarland, Mayor-elect Lisa Fitzgibbons, local Arizona State Legislators, and Frank Sala, N.Y. City Firefighter, who was at the towers, will share in opening ceremonies.
There are several activities planned such as litter removal, painting city structures, and landscaping. Trash bags and gloves will be offered to participants on a first-come, first-served basis; however, participants are also welcome to bring their own. Various displays will be onsite depicting the events and to remind the community of the power 9/11 holds in bringing people closer together.
The Arts & Culture Commission will have a table to create cards and write letters of thanks to local first responders and military overseas. A full list of activities on how you can give is posted to the city website, www.casagrandeaz.gov/volunteer.
Attendees are encouraged to bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and blankets to sit on while watching the opening ceremony.
A free hot dog lunch will be offered to all volunteers after clean-up, around 10:00 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue as several photographers will be on the grounds taking photos of the day’s events.
