The Casa Grande Police Department has arrested 23-year-old Yuma resident Juan Carlos Saenz Lugo in connection with the August 22nd shooting of a 33-year-old Casa Grande man. This incident occurred in the rear parking lot of Vaqueros Mexican Food, located at 601 East Florence Boulevard.
On August 22nd, 2024, Officers responded to a call for service by a male subject, reporting a gunshot wound. This person stated he was being driven to Banner Casa Grande Hospital and had been shot in the chest by an unknown person near Vaqueros on Florence Boulevard. Officers and Detectives responded to the shooting scene and began an investigation.
Detectives continued the investigation, acquiring critical information regarding the suspect vehicle from FLOCK cameras, which are located throughout the city of Casa Grande. The FLOCK system is a license plate recognition (LPR) camera system that uses artificial intelligence to monitor traffic and help law enforcement solve crimes.
On September 18th, 2024, CGPD Detectives collaborated with the Apache Junction Police Department in locating Lugo’s vehicle in a tow yard in Apache Junction. Lugo was located in the tow yard and was taken into custody. Lugo was in possession of a firearm and is a prohibited possessor.
Charges of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Armed Robbery, and Firearm Possessed by a Felon are being forwarded to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review.
