COMMUNITY INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE PROJECT ON SEPTEMBER 20.

Casa Grande, AZ – Community members are invited to take part in the National Day of Service Project on Saturday, September 20, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Carr McNatt Park, 1115 N. Brown Street.

The National Day of Service honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and in the field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The day serves as a reminder of unity, kindness, and the power of community.

In partnership with local schools, churches, non-profits and the City of Casa Grande, volunteers will join for park clean-up and beautification projects across Casa Grande. Last year’s event drew more than 400 volunteers at Ed Hooper Park, and this year’s effort promises to be even larger.

The opening ceremony will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. at Carr McNatt Park, featuring remarks from Mayor Lisa Fitzgibbons, local Arizona State Legislators, and other community leaders.

Volunteer Activities

  • Outdoor Projects: litter removal, landscaping, and painting community structures.
  • Indoor Options: activities for those with heat sensitivities, including the PLARN station, where volunteers weave mats from recycled plastic yarn to distribute to the unsheltered in Casa Grande.

Supplies: Trash bags and gloves will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; participants are encouraged to bring their own. A full supply list is available on the City's website

Additional Ways to Participate

  • Donation Stations: Non-perishable food, toiletries, and clothing can be dropped off at the Carr McNatt Basketball Court.
  • Arts & Culture Commission: Volunteers may create thank-you cards and letters for local first responders and military personnel overseas.
  • Displays: Onsite exhibits will highlight the events of 9/11 and the importance of community resilience.

Event Details

  • Bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and blankets for the opening ceremony.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue,
  • Photographers will be capturing moments throughout the day; however, if participants would like to share their photos with the city, they may use the link
  • A free hot dog lunch will be available for all volunteers starting at 10:00 a.m. and will continue until the event ends.
