Fats Oils Grease

What is FOG?

FOG stands for Fats, Oils, and Grease. These come from cooking meat, leftover food, cooking oil, butter, gravy, mayonnaise, and other fatty foods.

Why should I care?

When you pour FOG down the sink, it can stick to the inside of sewer pipes. This can cause big blockages that lead to problems like sewage spilling out where it shouldn’t, leading to costly plumbing repairs!

Here’s how you can help:

  • Never pour FOG down sinks or into toilets. When FOG is poured down the drain, it builds up and hardens, eventually clogging pipes.
  • Scrape food, sauces, and grease from plates, pots, pans, and utensils into a trash can. Then wipe with a paper towel before washing or placing it into a dishwasher.
  • Let the grease cool, pour it into a sturdy, sealable container, and then throw the container in the trash.
  • Reduce the use of your garbage disposal by using a strainer in sink drains to collect food scraps and empty the strainer into the trash or compost plant-based scraps.

Cool It. Can It. Trash It.
