FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: PHASE II OF TRAVELING GARBAGE GALLERY ART PROGRAM NOW OPEN.
The City of Casa Grande’s Public Works Department, Sanitation Division, is once again offering their fleet of garbage trucks as traveling canvases for local artists. The “Traveling Garbage Gallery Art Program” Request for Proposals (RFP) is open from September 30 to October 25 and is seeking artists to participate in a public art project to transform garbage collection vehicles into roving works of art.
The program includes two sides of five garbage trucks that offer 64 square feet of “canvas”. Additional trucks will be added each year until the fleet is covered. The selected artwork will honor an anti-littering campaign and highlight the importance of keeping Casa Grande clean and beautiful while adding a bit of flair to neighborhoods.
“We are thrilled once again to be a part of this public art and awareness program,” said Ron Rouse, Sanitation Superintendent. “Last year’s program was a big success. The artists get to create beautiful pieces, the community gets to enjoy the artwork, and our drivers get to proudly showcase these creations on their vehicles. Everyone benefits.”
To apply, interested parties may visit the City Website to view the RFP and submittal requirements. The deadline to submit is Friday, October 25 by midnight and selected artists will receive a $100 gift card. Designs are to be submitted as a digital vectorized file and will be printed on a vinyl wrap which will be adhered to the sides of the garbage truck.
The Public Works, Sanitation Division, covers 341 street miles and 39 alley miles, collects over 45,000 tons of trash each year, and services over 21,000 residential accounts citywide.
